For the third year in a row, //Aurora supports the Week of Literacy, a week dedicated to raising awareness about low literacy and the importance of basic skills in our society. Did you know that 18% of adults in Flanders and Brussels struggle with reading and writing? This shows how important it is for children to experience from an early age how valuable writing by hand truly is.
We are the Writing Warriors!
Through our Writing Warrior campaign, we aim to re-inspire children, young people, parents, teachers, professionals and policymakers with the power of pen and paper. Not out of nostalgia, but because writing works: it strengthens learning, stimulates creativity and helps organize thoughts.
To make this message tangible, we launched the very first paper dispenser at Go Shil primary school in Mechelen. No snacks or soft drinks, but free notebooks for an entire school year: a simple gesture that allows children to discover the power of handwritten words for themselves.
Author Marc De Bel cut the ribbon at the inauguration and celebrated this special moment together with the pupils. With their new notebooks in hand, the children could immediately experience how fun and valuable writing with pen and paper can be.
Join us!
Research shows: writing by hand makes a difference. Become a Writing Warrior too! Simply by reaching for pen and paper more often, letting children discover the value of handwriting, or by signing our open letter. With your signature, you support a movement where experts, authors, academics and entrepreneurs together call for a renewed appreciation of pen and paper. Not as a replacement for digital tools, but as a valuable complement. Because for both children and adults, writing remains a powerful way to learn, reflect critically and consciously process information.
Sign our open letter at www.schrijfstrijder.be and join the fight for the revaluation of pen and paper.
